NUTRITIONAL EDUCATION

05/13/2021

We created a curriculum to encourage a nutritious, balanced diet for the children. Starting off with sharing our members' favorite foods, we followed with educational videos on the Mexican dietary guidelines, food types, and how to read nutritional labels. Knowledge is power!

JOURNALS FOR MOTHERS

04/11/2021

In hopes to cultivate a culture of reflection, gratitude, and self-agency, we purchased journals for the mothers. They hosted a beautiful brunch and journaling session afterwards. We shared journaling prompts to encourage them to explore their fears, gratitude, and habits. We hope this brings peace, self-love, and independence to the mothers!

SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED

03/31/2021

Using our funds from the bracelet fundraiser, we were able to offer scholarships to two Casa Esperanza alumni: Ricchi and Lisa, who are both attending university. They were each awarded $300 for one full year of university tuition. We are so touched by their passion for higher education and wish them the best!

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

03/29/2021

Our HW Committee created a Physical Education playlist for the children at Casa. The students followed a schedule that utilized this playlist, which included a hula dance-along, yoga, and various exercises that got the students' blood flowing while making it enjoyable to cultivate a healthy lifestyle.

EDUCATIONAL EMPOWERMENT

02/22/2021

We interviewed two local alumni of Casa Esperanza about their experiences in pursuing higher education: Ricchi is an electrical engineer at university, and Lisa is entering university after finishing Bible school. We compiled their answers on why university-level education is so important to them and tips for learning. This video was shown to the children to inspire them to think about short and long-term goals for their educational journeys.

VALENTINE'S DAY

02/14/2021

On this day of love, we wanted to show the children that they are loved. We sent personalized notes and funded goodie bags for the children. Our local contact person, Gabby, helped put on the event down in Mexico!

MASK FUNDRAISER

02/14/2021 - 02/28/2021

We executed this fundraiser to keep our own communities safe and financially support our friends in Mexico. For every $8 donation, we handmade and sent out a double-lined, 100% tight-knit cotton mask with a wire nose bridge to the donor. We raised $1255, which will be used to fund upcoming events and add to our scholarship for higher education.

PRINCESS TEA PARTY

12/22/2020

At Casa Esperanza Club, we are dedicated to preserving the joy of childhood. For our Live Princess Tea Party, members of our members and UC Berkeley's Power of a Princess club dressed up as princesses and hosted a grand tea party for the children at Casa. Filled with games, surprises, and fun, it was a day to remember.

CHRISTMAS GIFT DRIVE

12/19/2020

Our annual Christmas Gift Drive was again a huge success this year! We sent a car stocked full of gifts and toys for children, as well as shoes for each mother and child in the shelter. We strived to bring warmth to a cold winter of social distancing and isolation.

BRACELET FUNDRAISER

11/18/2020 - 12/06/2020

For every $5 donation received, we mailed a handmade, customized bracelet to the donor and a matching bracelet to Casa. Within two weeks, we were able to gift about 200 bracelets to Casa's mothers, children, and workers. In total, we raised $1350, which we will use to fund up to 9 semesters of high school or college education for the children at Casa.

THANKSGIVING: GRATITUDE ACTIVITY

11/24/2020

We took the opportunity of Thanksgiving to talk about gratitude: what it is and how to show it. Our members shared what they are grateful for, and the children were instructed on how to make hand-turkeys to write or draw what they are most thankful for.

HANDWASHING EDUCATION

11/19/2020

In order to engage the children at Casa virtually, we created a video with an educational segment that explains the importance of handwashing, followed by a catchy song that encourage children to wash their hands, faces, and teeth. This activity reminded us to maintain good person hygiene and stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
